Figuring out the safe removal of gcc, you shouldn't need to install it for later kernel installs. At the very least, you can scp in a tarball of a kernel and it's modules compiled from your desktop, and unpack/install it on the box... If you're using Debian kernel images, then http://packages.debian.org/stable/base/kernel-image-2.4.18-1-386.html shows that kernel-images require only initrd-tools, fileutils, and modutils (which you need anyways) On Thu, 2003-09-18 at 16:22, elemint@cox.net wrote: > For security I have read that c compilers should be removed. > http://georgetoft.com/linux/security/locking/os.shtml#sharpobjects > If I am running Debian what is the best way to remove the c compiler with the intention that I might need to install it in the future for a kernel recompile, (the c compiler is necessary for kernel compiels correct?) > > should I also uninstall libncurses5-dev? > > > Jim > > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: > http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
