Agreed. What happened to plugpresents.com? Do we still have that domain and can we still use it? > I'd like for us to agree on one desktop to use for all installs. Granted, a newbie is not going to know what to choose. So, the PLUGger that is helping the install will choose for them based on the PLUGger's preference. I would suggest that the preferred desktop of the distro that is installed should be the desktop chosen. Installing Red Hat, use GNOME. Installing SuSE, use KDE. I prefer KDE on Red Hat but I'm just wierd. If I help install Red Hat for someone, I will leave it on GNOME because they probably will get better support from the Red Hat community that way. To phrase my question another way: What benefit do we, the InstallFest operators, get by installing only one desktop? I don't see one, myself. > The web site needs to have easy to find and easy to follow directions for > what to bring. Yes. It will need that. Content for this can be lifted from other sites and howtos that are readily available. > We need to tell them that we need space to install GNU/Linux. A defrag can turn a less than 1 hour install into a 3+ hour adventure in boredom. > We need to cover what to do about ntfs. We need to figure out what to do > about ntfs... I don't know about this one. I think mandrake and suse have tools to handle this but I have not used them. :^\ > We need to decide if we want to install Free Software on non-free systems. > If we're gonna do that we need to talk to groups for those non-free systems > and see if they'll help us out. Good thought. Should be on the list of voluteers and things to do that George is maintaining. And we need a voluteer to do it. Alan
