Those that know me on or off this list, know I'm about has hard core GNU guy as there is. However, after nearly 3 years of fending off a move to KDE. First for licensing issues in Qt, then to politics of Shaun Gordon and The Kompany and then out of loyalty to GNU. Simply put. I have had enough. The gnome developers insist on mimicking Microsoft. This includes making poor choices that are the bane of Microsoft operating systems today. I got sick of losing all my desktop settings regularly because of the satan called gConf. I got sick of 100 instances of bonobo objects just to run a simple mail program. I was sick of having to "hack" every setting. Doing command line changes to change fonts or configure a theme is unacceptable. I used to like it (and I still like the fact that its a CHOICE). However, the new Gnome regime thinks the desktop user is dumb and will never want to configure anything. So they have left out any sane way to do so. Just two days ago I went over the edge, when in GNU Enterprise Navigator tool I found our GNOME menu support was broken in gnome2. I went to research why and that was enough to tell me GNOME is terminally and fatally screwed. I spent half a day switching to KDE and configuring it. All I can say is WOW!!! It is a users wet dream, but like the GNOME of old it still lets a power user hack around in it. I got all my "fonts" working for GTK2 applications in KDE3. I am loving KDE and have no plans of switching back.... I switched to Mozilla Thunderbird / Calendar for Mail Tasks and am loving them as well. Sadly, Ximian has taken making money as priority over their ideals and in doing so have drug some of GNOME down with them. Hopefully, enough people will make the switch and the best hackers will re-align to where they once were. I love the GNOME team and I hope they can wow me with some future release, but until then... Where do I send my monthly donation to KDE League.... For those that REALLY know me. You know this is a major thing. :) - -Derek -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/SBv6Hb99+vQX/88RAlYWAJ9/xY0yLu4diQwnCnm9i5asZ3c6cgCcCp8S WAyp5bai5Hvo3Eekdw2xhd0= =IvBB -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
