With the icon it shouldn't be neccessary to mount it (it does it 
automatically). None the less I tried to mount it. It responded by saying:

mount: can't find /mnt/floppy in /erc/fstab or /etc/mtab

... yet it is there (in fstab). Then I right click it and a list appears. One 
of these options is to format. I decided to give that a try to which it 
responded with:

Cannot format : /dev/fd0u1440
/dev/fd0u1440: Device or resource busy
