Here is how the install goes (I think I have the steps correct):

1.Warning (press enter)
2.cfdisk (partition tool)
3.Select root partition (a partition that you created that is at leat 3 
gigs, if you are keeping windows that should be your first partition)
4.Select file system (select ext3 or reiser)
5.Selct (and activate) swap (a partition that is normally about .5 gig)
6.Copy files (takes about 40 minutes)
7.Select services you want to start at boot (samba, sendmail, graphical 
login,...) (you can normally hit no to everything except the graphical 
login)
8.Setup network
9.Install Lilo
10. Set new password for superuser and user "knoppix".

I agree that this takes knowledge of what is going on, but for a geek 
this is a far easier route to getting a powerful system than taking the 
time to install debian and then each package you want, or using a 
non-geek distro.

btw the way I setup my partitions is always
hda1 Windows (NTFS, 3 gigs)
hda2 Linux / (EXT3, 3 gigs)
hda3 Linux Swap /swap (.5 gigs)
hda4 Shared (fat, the rest)
