If you mostly just want to use a GNU/Linux desktop.  The best thing you
can do is just do it. :)  That is use it.  It will force you to learn
it. 
You can get help on this list and at the meetings.  Also, there were
some
introduction to GNU/Linux classes being held and they may resurface at
some point.

So, pop it in and hope for the best? Sounds risky and somewhat exhilirating.

But really. . .Will I need to download and install a bunch of extra drivers
or 'thingies' to make everything work correctly, hardwarewise?
