As I understand it, the leader of OpenBSD, Theo de Raadt, was very vocal about his opposition to the war with IRAQ. The DoD has since removed its funding of OpenBSD. Whether it is because of the opposition or budget moves, the DoD funding has gone away. As a side note, my company every time a war comes around looses DoD projects because all of the spending goes towards making bombs and we are not in the bomb business. The projects always return in peace time. I am sure OpenBSD will survive and thrive with other funding, whether public or private.
