Hi Kevin, Are those labs in the same building, or in different buildings? If they're in the same building, then I don't see a practical issue with security from the outside, since its very unlikely that either a 802.11A or 802.11B signal could escape most medical facilities... Should just use WEP, and take steps to insure that the signals aren't escaping the building; perhaps by testing from outside. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Brown" To: Sent: Saturday, January 04, 2003 12:51 PM Subject: HIPA and Network Configs > I remember months back some members of PLUG talking about HIPA regulations and > things like hospitals having to be compliant due to the need for privacy and > security of patient medical records. > > The company I now work for is still in the ramp-up phase and will be doing > medical research and so there is some concern about how we can setup our network > to link the various lab spaces that have been donated to us. > > The concerns are with allowing 802.11 wireless access to our network and using > Wireless bridges to link up some labs that are near each other.
