does anyone out there have any experience with mailman?

I'm just trying to get a simple list going..
basically an exploder for sending out website updates <when they occur> 
to people who are interested.

subscribe,unsubscribe <confirmation preferred>
only one person will being sending the update announcements.

i used to do this sort of thing with macjordomo- in os9,
but the X version seems to be a steaming POS
afterbeing told to steer clear of majordomo
i decided to try mailman on my poor little linux box

basic system info:
PIII 550 - it was free
1.2G RAM - overkill i know..
200G HD - also overkill- for now.. ;)
redhat 7.1 - it works
python 2.2.2
mailman 2.1

after much to-do i got it compiled installed and permissions set up.. 
but i dont know how to get it setup and running
theoretically there is a web interface.. but i dont know how to tie it 
in to apache or sendmail

or if there are any other options/suggestions/packages...?
