Just so that a myth doesn't get started, a Usenet server should not require "a lot of drive space" unless you attach it to another "public" Usenet server(1). A personal Usenet server should not take up any more space than a mail server (they are quite similar), and one may expire the messages after a certain date if required. Also note that NNTP does describe a method of authentication to keep non-employees from connecting (if the IP address is public). I really like Usenet, so I'm glad to hear the idea still kicks around in some minds. :-P (1) Even then, "smart" servers (such as leafnode) may be configured so that they only pull down groups which people have attempted to read. If the server seems a little disk-heavy, ask the employees to lay off alt.binaries.* ;-) - -- Voltage Spike ,,, (. .) - --ooO-(_)-Ooo-- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (Darwin) iD8DBQE92YQPpNoctRtUIRQRAphNAJ4updGcktZgaCM6KTmMiQMzBmG/RwCghnVj QZls75cTr/EY4M/DbE3wpzU= =UQK0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
