Adding a dash after su will give you the root $PATH, like this: su - You can also type the full path to the command: /sbin/chkconfig httpd off /sbin/chkconfig httpd on or change to /sbin and run it directly: cd /sbin ./chkconfig httpd off ./chkconfig httpd on The "./" says to run the command in the directory that you're currently sitting in. ~M
