My KDE did something like that a while ago. However, my KDE3 applications still work so I occasionaly use them while in my newly configured gnome desktop. Sorry I couldn't be of help but my fix was simply switching to Gnome. One day when I have some spare time on my hands, I may try to fix it but in the mean time, I've switched to Gnome and I really like some of its features. BTW, I too am running MDK8.2.
