I simply lost Internet access, and it happened exactly when I installed the ZoneAlarm upgrade. I uninstalled ZA, to no avail. I spent an hour with a very helpful and intelligent Excite@Home support guy (yes, really!) and got advice from a slew of other people. I re-installed and reconfigured Win98SE several times, based on the best advice I could get. All this time, of course, I was able to dual-boot over to RedHat 7.1 and talk to the Net just fine. So I installed Win98 on a brand new hard disk, then cut in the old ones for access to my old stuff. Network worked fine right away, no problem, identical configuration to what I had been trying, yada yada ... So you may "highly doubt" my post-hoc reasoning, but it was pretty cut and dried as far as I could determine. Upgrade ZA, bang, no network connection. I only wish I had saved the Registry before doing the upgrade, you ALWAYS NEED TO DO THAT with Windows ... :-( Vic
