Once upon a time, as a businessman, I needed some plumbing repaired. I called my friend, who was a welder, pipefitter, mechanic, etc. He repaired the pipe. A year later, right after I sold the building, the repair failed. The buyer brought in his licensed plumber, who recognized the non-professional work, and reported it to the owner. He contacted me and demanded I pay for the repairs by his plumber. I talked to my lawyer about this (after all, it was his building, now), and my lawyer explained that if we went to court, it would go something like this: - Each of os shows up in court with our plumbers. - The judge asks for their licensing information. - Oops - one of us doesn't have a license. - Judgment for the plaintiff in the amount of the bill plus court costs. Moral of the story: Use licensed contractors, ESPECIALLY, if you are in business.
