Oh, silly me - I was trying rpm -qa -qf "%{NAME}\n" which did not work. The man page says -qf and --queryformat are equivelant. Line 183 of the man page: You may specify the format that package information should be printed in. To do this, you use the [--queryformat|-qf] option, followed by the format string. This: rpm -qa --queryformat "%{NAME}\n" works perfectly. Obviously --queryformat != -qf And I thought it was me. Thanks for the clue! George "David A.
