I apologize for the confusion.  Put simply, I want to find something like M$
Netmeeting.  Capable of V4L video output and transmission over a network.
Also, possibly the ability for Netmeeting to connect to the clone as well as
clone to clone.

Exactly what are you trying to DO?

Please don't think I'm talking down to you;
I just want to make sure you're not reversing these
terms as I did for a long time:

 X server -- Software on your *workstation* that
   displays windows on the *local* screen, controlled
   by an application on a remote (X client) computer.

 X client -- Software on a remote computer, that
   displays windows on your workstation via your
   local X server.

Do you want to display output from the cameras on all
the engineers' different kinds of boxes?

When you refer to "X clients on these computers",
which of the computers are "these computers"?

What is your "master box" running?  Windows or Linux?

If you want an X *server* for a Windows box, then you
could try the XFree86 version that runs under Cygwin.
(I haven't tried this myself, yet.)  I don't know if
Cygwin can host an X *client*.

If you need remote systems to connect into a Windows
machine, maybe VNC would fill the bill.  Note that
there are nasty security issues with VNC.

BUT -- supposing your master box is running Linux and you
want workstation users of all sorts to view the camera
output.  You could do this by hosting the cameras via
an Apache server on the master box, and the workstation
users could use their native web browsers.  This would
make workstation type less of a problem.
