> I am using Redhat 7.1 on Compaq Presario 1655 laptop. It plays all music CD well. But when I try to play mp3 using xmms, it comes out with the following warning > > Couldn't open audio > > Please check the following > 1. You have the correct plugin selected > 2. No other program is blocking the soundcard > 3. soundacrd is configured correctly > > For. 1. eSound Output plugin is selected. That was the default, I don't know what other ones I could select > > 2. No Nothing is palying > > 3. gtcd could play any cd. So, soundcard is configured correct. CD sound doesn't really require the soundcard to be configured since the CD-ROM is doing the work of playing the music CD and just sending the output to a direct hookup with the speakers. I would check /etc/conf.modules or /etc/modules.conf and make sure that it has the options for your soundcard. If not (assuming Redhat) use sndconfig to set it up as root.
