You ought to search the PLUG archives because there was an extensive
discussion of this matter a while back.

I wonder if it might not be useful to create a separate plug-off-topic
list for discussing this sort of thing.  Personally, I have no
interest in reading it, but judging from the amount of traffic that
this topic generated last time, there are apparently a lot of people
who are interested.  I propose that the initial message be posted to
the plug-discuss list with the followup set to plug-off-topic.  That
way everyone can see the initial question, and can (perhaps
temporarily) subscribe to the off-topic list if they're interested in
participating in the discussion.  Perhaps the mailing list software
could be hacked to recognize OT in the subject line and change the
Reply-To:  header automagically.

(All of the Cox@Home discussions can go to this list too; very few of
them are Linux related.)
