Absolutely, as standard user applications should run on the stable version. I have had plenty of luck compiling and running newer apps for the stable base. Since this has nothing to do with the stability of the OS, There needs to be an OS critical list of packages and utilities and the other apps should be more *Free* to upgrade - emphasis added. So if anybody has any pull at Debian, please suggest this. Eric
