Go to http://www.linux-laptop.net/ and you'll find a long list of laptops and people's experiences with Linux. Example: Hitachi VisionBook Traveler - der.hans as installed Linux on it and tells all. Also, check www.linuxdoc.org for APM and laptop HOW-TOs. Finally, search in Google under the model name that interests you and Linux and you'll most likely find a page where you can read the experiences of others. Basically, it's all STFW.
