The linux box now shows its name as "Shitty" just as it should. But from two different w2k computers and a w98 computer, the network neighborhood shows Shitty as being "localhost" instead. Is there anywhere else I need to change the name? I also changed it under the network configuration box in KDE. -----Original Message----- From: plug-discuss-admin@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us [mailto:plug-discuss-admin@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us]On Behalf Of Digital Wokan Sent: Friday, October 19, 2001 1:32 PM To: plug-discuss@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us Subject: Re: how to change hostname Instead of reboot, if the logout/login doesn't work, try doing '/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart' Kevin Brown wrote: > > On RH6.x it is stored in a file. > > /etc/sysconfig > vi network > HOSTNAME= > > I believe you have to reboot for a change that is just to this file, but should > be a command to change it on the fly.
