> Tell that seperate entity story to the people who talk about having just > installed the new Linux 7.1 OS. :) There are many issues here, but I think that this comment is a good one. I do not see people upset that Red Hat calls it RedHat Linux and believe me if you are a reseller of thier product, and you did case study etc Im fairly certain they would request/demand you call it RedHat Linux and not Linux. If you created application set foo_tools. Someone came behind you and built application bar using foo_tools and included foo_tools in bar, you would probably request they call it foo_bar or some how give you credit. I believe this is all RMS is trying to do. Get GNU credit where it is due. Now, I will say that I think its wrong approach, so dont start flame back in that respect. :) (and why I think its wrong approach is a whole other dissertation) I find it funny that RMS is being slaughter because of this glibc thing where he 'pushing someone out' and not 'giving them proper due'. However, if Linus doesnt give him credit and creates the same outcry people slaughter him. (granted its not an apple to apple comparission) More over I dont see how GNU\Linux is an 'ego' trip for RMS as many claim. He isnt wanting to call it RMS\Linux. I mean wouldnt Debian or Linux (both containing phrases of thier authors) be MORE vain. I have not seen anything that says GNU == RMS. He started GNU Project but virtually from day one it has consisted of many people. Believe me there are lots of ills in our community currently, and honestly GNU\Linux vs Linux isnt much important in comparision. Anyhow these discussions are better in person so I will shut up for now. :) -derek
