To check the bad clusters try booting and keeping all your drives read-only then run 'badblocks' I believe you use 'badblocks -sv' Or if you are willing to risk it try 'badblocks -svn' This will do a nondestructive read/write test... But I've never tried it, so I can't say it won't destroy anything.. And if you don't care what's on it, you just want it tested then try this, 'badblocks -svw' Which will write all 00's to the drive and destroy anything on it, but will clean it really well, especially good for getting rid of sensitive data. This is a handy trick . Slackware comes with a live demo cd that can boot a fully running gui linux system, which makes it real easy to run bad blocks on aread-only system, or r/w. But I would suggest doing the '-sv' -s show, -v verbose... nathan ----- Original Message ----- From: "stoney the goomba" To: "plug" Sent: Monday, August 06, 2001 1:50 AM Subject: what is going on with Gnome > Hey I have another interesting little thing going on... > > Gnome drops the little tray that shows which programs are open...
