I don't support the telnet server on my boxes. Back several years ago, I did. I'm mo smahrter now. As a client, I use telnet to simulate a web browser or an e-mail client or an MTA. If you speak http, pop or smtp, you get a better understanding of what the problem really is when your user says "It doesn't work."
