ok i took the advice of derek n. and grabbed icecast, got up and running and 
streaming with util. ices. but i get this message right after connecting to 
the server:

Warning: Encountered error while transfering .. [ERROR: Is directory!]
Streaming 4584048 bytes from file /blah/blah/blah/blah.mp3

so it seems to be working, i can connect to it using XMMS. i was just 
wondering if anyone may have a clue as to why i recieve this little annoyance.
