Knapp Profile Mr. Thomas Knapp is the Western Region Linux Principal with IBM Global Services. Thomas has over 12 years of consulting, engineering, operations, marketing, sales, and business development management experience. Thomas has broad and substantive experience creating long-term, executive level relationships with service providers, Fortune 2000 companies, and channel firms in order to create win-win vendor-client partnerships. Thomas brings large corporate management experience placing technology solution sets together to meet customer requirements, meeting both technology and business goals. Thomas also ran, as CEO, a Linux-server appliance Silicon Valley startup from initial seed inception to an M&A. Successes Most recently, Thomas was Founder and CEO of LinuxSolve, Inc., a leading developer of secure server appliances for internet infrastructure. Thomas grew the company to 12 employees, associates, and contractors, and led exponential sales growth from ground zero at company launch. He also raised $600K in Series A funding and grew sales revenue to $700K the first year of the company. Thomas also is co-inventor and holds 3 patents for LinuxSolve's GuardWorks Linux operating system, a hacker-proof OS. Prior to LinuxSolve, Thomas managed channel marketing strategy for the Solutions Integrator / reseller channel and Fortune 2000 market segment at AMD, resulting in 200% market share increase in the corporate reseller channel and design wins with Tier 2-3 channel OEMs for workstation and server SKUs. He also launched AMD's corporate Linux Initiative, working closely with Linux hardware and software developers to design and grow sales of AMD based Internet Servers. Thomas led a matrix team of marcom, PR, strategic planning, and Web promotions and developed joint demand-creation strategic partners such as Compaq, IBM, Penguin Computing, Everex, Caliber Computer Corporation, Mitsuba, Total Peripherals, Computer Associates, Red Hat Linux, IBM Speech, and many others. Prior to AMD, Thomas was responsible for CRM software strategy and implementation for Fortune 1000 clients of EDS. He managed EDS, customer, and third-party ISV developer resources in order to meet the end business rules & goals of Fortune customers such as AMD and Philips Semiconductor. Thomas was part of the team responsible for growing EDS's business at Philips to a $100 million account. Thomas has also held various marketing and operations management roles, establishing world-wide networks of distributors and manufacturers reps in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, France, Germany, and the UK. Other Direct Work Experience Thomas also worked with, while with AMD, several Linux clustering projects and product implementations. He worked with Penguin Computing to create AMD based Resonate e-business cluster solutions. Thomas also holds expertise in internet host security and survivability, having designed GuardWorks Linux. Credentials Thomas holds a BA and MA in English from San Jose State University. He has also attended the MBA program at SJSU. Thomas completed and graduated from AMD's Technical Sales Engineer program which focused on PC/Server technologies and architecture. All AMD executives have completed this program at some time in the past.
