I don't think there is a 'turnkey' machine that is low cost for both *NIX and Windows. To get turnkey functionality it has to be PostScript ready and they start at more than $600. However, in theory Linux can print to any machine that uses HP's house protocol. However, SAMBA should be able to share a printer on *NIX to Windows and *NIX machines and printers on Windows machines to *NIX and Windows machines. Unfortunately, as far as I know SAMBA still requires a print server. You can't get direct access with HP's direct-to-network solution. > -----Original Message----- > From: Mark Phillips [mailto:phillips@usa.net] > Sent: Friday, May 18, 2001 10:00 AM > To: Arizona Internet Professionals Association (E-mail); Aztechlist > (E-mail) > Subject: [aztechlist] Looking for Laser Printer Recommendations > > > I am looking for a laser printer that will work (e.g. allow document > printing from any machine) in the following environment: > > * Peer to peer TCP/IP network > * Win 95, 98, 2000 Professional, and Linux (RH 7.0) machines on > the network > * Low cost (this is for home use) > * Preferably not an hp printer ......;) (see below) > > I have an HP LaserJet 3100 that HP will not support in a heterogeneous > network environment such as mine.
