As a former classroom teacher, vocational evaluator, voc-rehab counselor and Mensa proctor, I have a nodding acquaintance with standardized testing. Common usage has it that if you scored better than 95% of all tested in the standardizing group on a standardized test, you were said to be in the 95th %ile rather than in the 5th %ile.
