I did enter the sync rates explicitly due to the fact that is the way my manual lists them and when trying a range as 31.5-56.6 I could not get X to work at all. I do have an 800x600 display now using the calculator. I can see everything without straining my eyes which is a relief. I looked at the modelines you made for me and they were in the xconfig file but I wasn't able to get a working 800x600 resolution. I appreciate your help and time offered.
