Thanks. This HOWTO is great. I actually found a current version of lde and played with that for more hours than I should have, but to no avail. I didn't perform the most important step, unmount the partition. If anyone is interested lde can be found at: http://www.datafoundation.org/lde/ It is a nice piece of software that took me a little bit to understand. I recommend playing with it before you have a file that you absolutely need get deleted.
