I have a Diamond Speedstar A55 with 8 MB RAM. I also have a Voodoo2 graphics accelerator(though I don't know if it's up and running or not- I get some kind of message about MMR during bootup and I don't run any games so I don't know if it's really even being used). It would seem, at least to me, that i've got plenty o'beef :) However, my chopping problems are still pretty bad, even after renicing. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Peoples [mailto:gascsd@gascairlines.com] Sent: Monday, September 18, 2000 10:23 PM To: plug-discuss@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us Subject: RE: Multimedia in Linux By chance, what are the specs on your video card? I had a similar problem, but when I put in a beefier video card, it never happened again... -----Original Message----- From: plug-discuss-admin@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us [mailto:plug-discuss-admin@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us]On Behalf Of Lucas Vogel Sent: Monday, September 18, 2000 10:14 PM To: 'plug-discuss@lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us' Subject: RE: Multimedia in Linux Would renicing processes help with the problems I am having playing mp3's? I am using AfterStep for a window manager, and whenever I move a window and my mp3 player is playing(any of them actually) it chokes the player and makes it sound like a skipping CD. My icecast server(or the streamer) seem to have the same problems. Would renicing help? What kind of effects does renicing have on processes? You may be running into problems because the machine is deciding it would rather figure out what comes next than work on displaying what has already been figured out. I was getting MP3s to play smoothly on an AMD X5 at 160MHz (an overclocked 133MHz 5x86 ) by renicing everything to 10, then the player (splay 0.7) to -20 .. -- jkenner@mindspring.com __ I Support Linux: _> _ _ |_ _ _ _| Working Together To <__(_||_)| )| `(_|(_)(_| To Build A Better Future. | ________________________________________________ See http://PLUG.phoenix.az.us/navigator-mail.shtml if your mail doesn't post to the list quickly and you use Netscape to write mail.
