OK I finally went back to Anders Bronworth's web site. The netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.3-7 tarball is what I am currently using and it incorporates AFP over IP which is why it probably wouldn't work with OS 7 clients unless they were to install a more current AppleShare client (something like version 3.74 or newer). If you want OS 7 clients - check out Appleshare Workstation 3.65 I figured out what the afpfs is and never tried to install it as it has little that interests me (makes linux an Appleshare client - much the same as Samba client would operate). The note David Foster claims that afpfs is in very poor shape right now / pre-alpha I think he calls it is enough to discourage me from playing with it.
