Joel I did as you said and added the line to the rc.local and have 32 bit w/ sync enabled,dma on and multicount 16 although, I see no real difference. I suppose that I may have had unrealistic expectations of Linux. I'm sure somewhere along the road I may stumble across something to increase the performance. I appreciate your assistance and I'll read a little more about the top cammand Mike suggested as their is about 39 progs. on the list with 38 sleeping. Of course I ran "top" in a console with kde running so that may have affected it.
