If you're not = failure with Xfree86 and/or have a semi-obscure video card, you will = want to make sure that you go with 3.3.6. Version 4 is very new and = lacks the wide range of video card support and pleasant setup/config = utilities. If that's not the case, it sounds like you're missing some libraries or = the ld.so.conf isn't setup correctly, broken links, or something weird = like that. You might try flipping to an alternate screen (alt+function key) and = logging in as root and doing a: find / -name libx11.so.* -print and report back your findings to us along with the contents of your = /etc/ld.so.conf file (cat /etc/ld.so.conf). Be sure to include other = information like your video card model, etc. It might also be worth = checking for errors in your /var/log/messages file (type: less = /var/log/messages as the root use.. shift+G will take you to the bottom = of the file and q willl exit).
