In my experience in helping put people into new careers, John is mostly correct. A certification is a great asset but it doesnt replace experience. I have seen NT certified engineers try to get a job at the promised 50K level and it just doesn't happen. If you have the experience the certification will aloow you to position yourself better in your current company or a future one.
