If you use KDE, use KMail. Or try XFMail. Check out http://www.linuxlinks.com or http://www.linuxapps.com to either one. Filtering is included in both. Filtering out spam may be easy as having filter rules set up so that all of your LUG mail and personal mail can be automatically filed away into separate folders, and you can just delete the in-box stuff after the mail has been gotten.
