<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Hello,</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"> Regarding Software dev people of which I am one of, I once had a teacher with a masters degree in CIS tell me that polymorphism was a Latin word. On another occasion, a different person who I worked with a masters degree in CIS told me OOP was only happening in the GUI side. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Best experience I had with a CS teacher was at SCC who used Sun OS for his programming lectures. Standard I/O , and standard error was discussed, but it went over my head coming from a Windows background. I now use Linux almost exclusively for the above.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I'll bet in educational places like India and Russia they know the value of Linux in the dev field. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">thanks,</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Greg</div><div><br></div>

It has many many advantages to understand the ecosystem and the distros available. Linux alone makes an awesome developer environment that I don't think people really try to take advantage of. Recently I watched a YouTube video that stated otherwise. The presenter <br clear="none">
said it is important to know Linux which will set one apart from the <br clear="none">
crowd.<br clear="none">

I have been "messing"/"playing"/"working" with Linux since around 1998 <br clear="none">
or so. Learned a lot and have a lot to learn. Thought all opensource <br clear="none">
developers had at least a fundamental understanding of Linux.<br clear="none">
<br clear="none">
Is it true most do not know Linux?<br clear="none">
<br clear="none">
And is it true that it is good, for a dev, to be able to put they have <br clear="none">
basic familiarity of Linux on their Resume?<br clear="none">
