it is asking me for a database so I figure mysql but it isn't installed.
No problem.... I'll apt-get it. Apt-get install mysql<tab tab> gives a
lot of download candidates though. Which should I install? I'm thinking
mysql-server but there is also ...server-5.5 and ...server-core-5.5.
Here are the candidates:
$ sudo apt-get install mysql
mysql-client mysql-mmm-tools mysql-testsuite
mysql-client-5.5 mysql-proxy mysql-testsuite-5.5
mysql-client-core-5.5 mysql-server mysqltuner
mysql-common mysql-server-5.5 mysql-utilities
mysql-mmm-agent mysql-server-core-5.5 mysql-workbench
mysql-mmm-common mysql-source-5.5 mysql-workbench-data
mysql-mmm-monitor mysqltcl
I'm at pre instalation checklist now. One of the issues I
have with this
section is that my outpu buffering is set to on and they
recommend off.
I think I am going to leave it as it stands now but wanted
to get advise.

I believe that setting is optional, so you should be safe
leaving it along as it won't really matter for a personal site.

The other issue is configuration.php Writeable. After
googling a little
I figured I bette make it writable and so did.

Yup, you have to make it writable so that it can create and
modify the config. Later once you have everything set like you
like it, you can safely set it to read only and that can help
with security.
