wifi and arch (or perhaps I should say systemd or iwd)

That seems weird, can you try it from the gui?  You should a networkmanager
icon in your tray on most Desktop Environments.

Also, maybe try walking through these steps in this link, verify the radios
are on, and a few different ways to connect.
