Good $100 Wifi Router for Apartment and Advanced User?

The cable modem/router does not ddwrt very well at all. Interestingly it
the router side is not an issue. Its the fact that the modem is attached to
the interface/area where the wan port would connect. and it would no longer
talk correctly
