This month's meeting is special

Shoot, has it really been 'only' 25 years?

I remember when we started PLUG lo those many years ago with Eric and Dean (assuming I've remembered right!) (when we had the 'free' url.. um, lets see plug.az.us? see, I remember a little, anyway ;-) Still somewhat upset that that URL got taken away from us)

And I guess since I was holding the PLUG meetings myself (even if I was the only attender) for a few years, we probably had the vast majority of the meetings ;-)

How many different locations have we had? At the start, I think we just went to restaurants for lunch. Or at least, that's what I did when I was pretty much the only active member...

Somewhere I've saved the PLUG announcement email I sent out back then.

Couldn't find it, after a fair amount of searching, but I did find:

PLUG

Phoenix, AZ

The PLUG (Phoenix Linux User's Group) had their August meeting at the Arizona Center Food Court at 11:45am on the eleventh of August. Highlights included an InfoMagic CD give-away and a report from “The Other Side” (i.e., NetBSD). For more information send e-mail to plug at tsiung.dist.maricopa .edu.

I also found this:

The august PLUG meeting has been scheduled, and due to the
availability of a free cd I'd like to announce this to the
world:

Subject: This month's meeting is special

I totally forgot to mention in the announcement that this month's
meeting will be our 25th Anniversary meeting.

That's right!  25 years ago this month, on May 4th, PLUG held it's first
meeting and we've been holding them monthly ever since.

In the last 25 years I can only recall one meeting, out of our regular
general meetings, that had to be canceled.  Sadly it was a recent
meeting this last march, but even when we lost all our planned
presenters for the month we still managed to hold a meetings.

I met almost all of my closest friends though PLUG and  I've gotten much
of the work I've done through PLUG, and most importantly I was able to
do that work with the knowledge I gained through PLUG.

I'm looking forward to the next 25 years and maybe 25 years after that
if my health holds out... Perhaps by then I'll be half robot and my body
will run Linux <grin>

If anyone has any special memories of PLUG that you would like to share,
please feel free to do so.

Brian Cluff
