How to get ffmpeg installed on my system?

Thanks to all who responded,
but ffmpeg is apparently still not found on my system.

cat workshop2.VOB | ffmpeg -i - workit.mp4

ffmpeg: command not found

This was after I did this:

sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

Then this:

dpkg -l *ffmpeg*

Got this result:
