rk3399: like a Pi, but more RAM/CPU/I/O?

Saw this kickstarter link earlier:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1771382379/firefly-rk3399-six-core-64-bit-high-performance-pl/
. They say that they're putting together an ARM single-board machine
with USB 3 ports, 1, 2, or 4G of RAM, dual-monitor capability, and the
ability to run Android or Ubuntu. "Like a Raspberry Pi but with more
power" seems to be what they were going for.

This sounds sort of interesting, even though it's a bit more expensive
than a Pi. The kickstarter's fully funded, and it looks like these
people have already built and shipped a couple of other ARM boards.
Main problem I could see is that the hardware will probably be dependent
on binary blobs and it'll be a PITA to run anything but whatever kernel
they give you. The Pi also has a large community that has hashed out
many problems, while this system will probably involve new and exciting
bugs. Thoughts?
