could someone help me install vlc 1.1.10

What distro do you have (cat /etc/issue;uname -a) and which Vlc version?
It may no even be Vlc, Vlc relies on a bunch of libraries.
Installing those libraries from source looks to me like a great way to get 
your system hosed.
