ISTR something from the very early days of Unix where someone said, "vi 
is much easier for people with no computer experience to learn than line 
editors like ed", so just be glad it's not 1972 anymore :-)  Also, vi is 
ubiquitous and is insanely powerful once you've learned it.

The install documentation for Gentoo looks a lot more complicated than 
it really is.  (I've been using Gentoo for the last 10 years though, so 
I might be a tiny bit biased.)  If you are having trouble installing 
$DISTRO, then bring your hardware to the next installfest, and people 
will attempt to help.
