Kubuntu or Ubuntu and RAID 1?

I use them often at installfests for softraid
I think a lot of stuff got removed when ubuntu got too big to fit on a cd
they did not want to go to  a dvd but after removing non pae they lost
support for machines and had to go to dvd anyway
