ppa?

They are both right, but it amounts to "Do you trust the person that has 
created the PPA"
If it's just some guy without an established record, I would tend to 
avoid the repository.
If you trust them, then go for it, just keep in mind, that you are 
handing a lot of control of your system to the packager.  They can do 
anything to your system, or possible make it your machine unstable 
because they didn't package their software correctly.
