web hosting

In 2014, when you can get an OpenVZ VPS or DigitalOcean VPS for less than
$5 a month, any expense you put into hosting at home is money wasted. The
VPSes are transparently upgraded, have no noise, no power requirements,
will stay up if you have an outage, have much more bandwidth than you do
(even with a business-class connection), and have no real downsides other
than not being on physical hardware. If that's your concern, OVH has cheap
dedicated Atoms for $10/month that'll do anything and everything you want.

Having a server at home for a lab, internal DNS, and other stuff to play
with is definitely nice. But hosting external services from your home is a
losing proposition.
