I'm building linux from scratch in a virtual machine

okay..... here is the deal. I'm trying to download the packages to
$LFS/sources. the problem I am having is that I can't create the directory
as <user>. If I create it as root I won't be able to access the directory
as <user>. Do I create the directory as root and then chown <user>?
