My 2¢ worth

I remapped my windows keys so that the right one gives me a £ and the 
left one a ¢.  This works on every app I've tried, except Thunderbird.  
For it I have to print them in something else then copy and paste.  Any 
ideas how I can get those keys and characters to work in Thunderbird?
